The HV (High Voltage) Submarine ‘Hybrid’ Power and Fibre-Optic Communication Cable, manufactured by Üntel Kablo, was used in the construction of the Osmangazi Bridge, one of Turkey’s most significant projects. Developed in 2014 for the bridge’s piers, this specialised cable provided both power transmission and communication over a single line, meeting the project’s energy requirements during the construction phase.
Designed to withstand seawater and high pressure, our cable was developed through the joint efforts of Turkish and Japanese engineers. This hybrid structure, in which both power conductors and fibre tubes are housed within a single sheath, provides protection against impacts thanks to an armour made of galvanised steel wires, whilst also being fully protected by a swelling tape that expands upon contact with liquid.
Today, this cable is on display at the Osmangazi Bridge Museum for visitors to view. Produced at Üntel Kablo’s Dilovası/Kocaeli facilities and representing Turkey’s engineering prowess, this product stands out not only for the critical role it played in the bridge’s construction process but also as a symbol of our country’s success in the fields of industry and technology.
We invite you to visit the Osmangazi Bridge Museum to see this special cable and the many valuable artefacts relating to the bridge’s construction process up close.
